Charleroi to Brussels

Since Brussels Charleroi is about 55 kilometres from Brussels, it is not the closest airport to Brussels but still accessible in many convenient ways. Compared to other major airports around the world, it is a reasonable distance to travel to the city centre. Low cost airlines such as Ryanair and Wizzair have regular cheap flights arriving and departing from Charleroi, which has made it a favourite for many travellers looking for a good deal.

To Brussels by Train
To get to Charleroi Sud (south) train station there is a direct Airport Express bus A which leaves from outside the terminal (18 minutes). You can buy a ‘bulk’ ticket from one of the ticket booths within the station and travel to the train station and then onwards to any station in Brussels. These combined tickets can only be purchased on-site at the airport and come in one-way or return journeys. Train journeys are 60 minutes from Charleroi Sud to Brussels Centrale. If you are purchasing it to reach the airport from any train station ask for a “code 814 - Signe Fare” or “code 815-Return Fare”.

To Brussels by Bus
The most used and convenient method to travel from Brussels Charleroi Airport to Brussels is by shuttle bus. They are frequent, direct and fast; travellers do not need to change at any stops. Door-to-door shuttle buses are also available but they need to be booked in advance.

Shuttle Bus
Shuttle bus services are now very common at the airport. They run once an hour everyday between Brussels and Charleroi – journey time is about 45 minutes to Brussels-Midi station. It is one of the most convenient and cheapest ways to reach the city. From Brussels-Midi station there are metro lines and railway lines to other parts of the city. Tickets are available at counter number 1 at the airport, on the coach in Brussels city centre stop (corner of rue de France and rue de l’Instruction) or from the website www.voyages-lelan.be. Fares are €13 single; €22 return.

Door-to-Door Shuttle Bus
Renting a mini-bus service is also an option for larger groups (7-8 passengers). Shuttle services need to be booked in advance and they will drop you off at the exact location of your hotel or destination in Brussels. To Brussels by Car
Brussels is about 55 kilometres (34 miles) from Brussels Charleroi Airport. Driving to Brussels from Brussels Charleroi Airport is quite straight forward since the airport is directly south of Brussels city centre. From the north of Brussels Charleroi airport take the E420 which merges onto A54 and drive north for 20 km, exit on A7 and drive 12 km, continue along R0 (outer ring road) for 15 km until you reach exit 18. Journey time is 45 minutes into Brussels city centre.

To Brussels by Taxi
Taxis between Brussels Charleroi Airport and Brussels cost about €80 and can be cost efficient if shared between 4 passengers and taken directly to and from your destination. All taxis are parked outside the passenger terminal. There are three taxi companies that have signed up to a quality charter with the airport. Look out for these taxis when you are there and they may offer a fixed price to your destination.
